It's something I've thought a lot about, too. I think that, thankfully, most people don't feel pressured to get married or "paired up" at a young age, so it's common to see people in long-term relationships break-up. I think that this is a good thing because once we do find a good match, we know a lot about relationships and can build a much healthier relationship (of course, some people get lucky and find someone wonderful early). I know that for my partner, leaving me was not something he considered and we also have a sense of this is something that we're going through together (and something that we'll overcome). It's just nice to hear someone write a beautiful article about what real relationships are like, and not a fairy tale version.

This is a wonderful article. I've been thinking a lot about relationships and dealing with illness. Words can't express how grateful I am to my husband for supporting me as "we" go through this journey of UC and j-pouch. Sometimes though, I wonder why we are so surprised to hear about people sticking together when illness strikes? I've seen more goodness from people as I've dealt with my health issues than I ever saw before. I guess our culture has become so disposable, we aren't really programmed to believe that people will stay around through the tough times. But there are so many people out there who will and are. Not that it's easy by any means, but it what love is really about. Just some thoughts . . . Abby
